I’m an experienced psychotherapist, and historian of religions specializing in South Asian cultures, in private practice in Oakland, CA. My greatest joy and commitment is to help others to heal their inner world, to grow in self-awareness, and to find happiness and fulfillment in their lives. I’ve been exploring the deep realms of psychological as well as spiritual experience, and their connections, for over forty years, personally and professionally.
A skilled therapist is someone who has not only academic training and experience, but also a long-term commitment to extensive self-exploration, healing and integration within his or her own life. I have held that commitment for decades and deeply understand the sometimes challenging journey of self-discovery and healing, as well as the remarkable rewards that come from healing old emotional wounds and overcoming ongoing existential challenges. I have helped many, many people to grow beyond their painful personal issues. |
I hold an M.A. in Psychology from JFK University, and an M.A. in Divinity and a Ph.D. in South Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago. For over 40 years I’ve been deeply engaged in the theory and practice of depth psychotherapy, as well as the study of religious history and world mythologies. I have a particular love for the art and practice of dream interpretation and since 2000 I have taught Archetypal Mythology and Dreamwork at the Sophia Center of Holy Names University in Oakland, CA. I have also practiced Vedic (Hindu) astrology for over thirty years. AdityasVedicAstrology.com
In addition to my own life-long psychological self-exploration, I’ve maintained a long-term study and practice of Buddhist and Hindu meditation, prayer, and martial arts. I’ve been involved for many years with a number of spiritual communities -- Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, and Jewish. Cultivating an open heart -- with the empathy and insight that are intrinsic to that path -- is my primary spiritual practice.
